What exactly are Dental Bridges?
Fixed dental bridges are used in areas where teeth are missing. The bridge typically consists of three teeth that are fused together to look natural and realistic. The two outermost teeth are known as the abutments, and these are attached to surrounding teeth. The center tooth is known as the pontic and this is what fills in the gap where a natural tooth is missing.
Why would you need Dental Bridges?
You may be told that you need a dental bridge if you’re missing a tooth. Most often, we will recommend dental implants for missing teeth, but not everyone wants an implant or is eligible for surgery. For this reason, a dental bridge is the next best option and can provide a full, realistic-looking smile. Bridge work can be placed anywhere in the mouth where you’re missing a tooth.
What makes you a candidate for Dental Bridges?
You will need to come in for a consultation as well as examination so that our doctor can determine if you need a bridge. In some cases, older bridges need to be replaced with new restorations. We can take a shade guide match so that the bridge blends beautifully with the rest of your dentition. Our goal is to provide you with a full, beautiful smile that looks completely natural.
What can you expect with Dental Bridges?
You’ll come into the office and receive local anesthetic for the work to be done. We start by filing down surrounding teeth that will hold the crown. Once this is done, we’ll take impressions and send them off to a dental lab. Another impression is taken to make your temporary bridge, which is what you’ll go home with the same day. You’ll then come back in to have the permanent bridge placed. It may need to be adjusted so that it feels comfortable when you bite down and smile.
